Missing Field Codes or "IF" statements When Viewing Template in Word

Modified on Thu, 14 Mar at 12:28 AM

Problem

Some field codes or conditional document sections have disappeared from the document template in Word.

Solution

To view the field codes in a Word document, use the Alt + F9 key combination (ViewFieldCodes). This key combination will toggle on and off the visibility of field coding in Word documents.

You may also change this in Word via File > Options > Advanced > Show document content > Show field codes instead of their value.

Fields may become invisible or have an unexpected or confusing 'field result' as their default display when this is switched off. This tends to more commonly affect conditional statements such as IF statements which may cause entire blocks of the document to not be visible.

If you are frequently editing templates you might like to keep this switched on. People who have merged templates from LawMaster should not see field codes in most cases, so most people will not need to make this change.
