Excel spreadsheet - document cannot be found when trying to save

Modified on Tue, 20 Feb at 9:02 PM

Problem

When an excel spreadsheet is opened from LawMaster, changes are not able to be saved and excel offers a message: "The file <a temporary file folder>\myexcelfile.xlsx cannot be found."

The excel spreadsheet shows the word "Shared" in the application window:

Solution

Disable excel legacy sharing.

For spreadsheets that have NOT already been saved to LawMaster:

  1. Open the document;
  2. Go to the Review tab on Excel;
  3. Choose the option to unshare the workbook;
  4. Save and close.
  5. Save to LawMaster.

For spreadsheets that are already saved to folios in LawMaster you will need to first extract the folio to the file system using the option on the folio context menu, then following the steps above. You may wish to remove or otherwise mark the old copy of the folio so you know not to use that on in future.

If the spreadsheet was created from a LawMaster document template, you will also need to have that template amended accordingly.
